New Travel Document Requirements
June 2009
As of June 1, 2009, visitors over the age of 16 are required to have a passport, passport card or other approved travel document to re-enter the U.S. from Mexico. For a full list of approved travel documents, please see the U.S. State Department Web site.
Children under the age of 16 may still travel with a birth certificate and second form if ID (text copied from State Department web site):
CHILDREN: U.S. citizen children under the age of 16 will be able to present the original or copy of their birth certificate, or other proof of U.S. citizenship such as a naturalization certificate or citizenship card.
There is an exception to the new requirements for U.S. citizens between the ages of 16-18 traveling with school or church groups:
Groups of U.S. citizen children ages 16 through 18, when traveling with a school or religious group, social organization, or sports team, will be able to enter under adult supervision with originals or copies of their birth certificates or other proof of citizenship.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the new passport requirements. We look forward to seeing you soon!
